Oh I remember the first assassins creed game playing as Altair. At the time I thought it was the best game ever created, then since then we’ve had new games which have all aimed to improve on the last.

Now for a short list on my favourite games from this Ubisoft franchise in no particular order.

Revelations

Old Ezio is definitely the coolest assassin there is
Old Ezio is the best

Now it’s no secret that most peoples favourite assassin would be Ezio. But an older more grizzled Ezio, who is on a final mission to find out the mysteries of the past? Count me in!

The gameplay was a large improvement over the previous games, introducing the hook blade and a brutal new combat style.
If that wasn’t enough we also had assassins to help and aid us throughout, you can call them in to help you or assassinate targets. One word: awesome.

The story was also compelling enough to get me to replay it multiple times, take a look at the trailer and tell me that you don’t think that this story is amazing.

Ezio is haunted by the ghost of Altair and it could not have made a better Assassins Creed game. Definitely deserves a spot on this list.

Assassins Creed II

Don’t worry, this list won’t all be the Ezio trilogy. But this game definitely deserves its place here.

OK, so young Ezio is a bit a Han Solo type character, also cool.
Its not my fault Ezio is so likeable

The change between the first assassins creed game and the second game was monumental. The weapons and gameplay were dramatically improved, they added multiple types of weapons. This included spears, heavy weapons, using the hidden blade as a more offensive weapon and ranged weapons. Even on top of massively improved gameplay, assassins creed went a step further and gave us much more. They added an RPG element to the game that was extremely welcome, they added an entire city for you to upgrade. Did I forget an assassins creed double hidden blade!

The double hidden blades were definitely a nice touch.

This was in my opinion, one of the best game sequels in the context of the assassins creed universe.

Unity

Arno was actually quite a lot of fun.

So this game got a lot of slack at launch due to issues with bugs, but since then it has become one of the best assassins creed games. Including a big overhaul in the combat system, it also implemented more RPG elements into weapons and armour. The biggest change and my personal favourite was the parkour system. It was improved massively to be more fluid and way way more fun. Don’t believe me? Check out a montage below.

Syndicate

Evie and Jacob Fry were a pair of really fun protagonists.

Now, this is the direction that I wish the franchise would have went. Two protagonists, both with engaging personalities. On top of that the differences between the two characters was enough to make you feel as though you needed to play differently.

I won’t lie though, I think Evie Fry might be my favourite character from the Assassins Creed franchise. Don’t get upset, I said MIGHT be.

Black Flag

Who doesn't love the ship battles of Black Flag.

OK so we all know this one deserves a spot on the list, Assassins Creed: Black Flag made massive improvements on Asssassins Creed III, and introduced everyones favourite element. Ship Battles.

Never before had needed something so badly that I never knew I needed. Damn these segments were fun in the game.

Personally, while I enjoy Assassins Creed: Odyssey and Origins, I don’t necessarily like the gameplay elements more than any on my list. The combat is a bit repetitive and monotonous, the fun parkour elements have just been replaced by boring climbing. None of these changes have made the gameplay interesting or challenging.

The upcoming Assassins Creed: Valhalla looks like a fun game, so I hope that it can go in the direction to make these games more entertaining than the last 2.

What are your favourite Assassins Creed games? Did you agree with my list?
